"Becky", an original. Wrote this with my studio partner. I'm on bass and singing lead, and programmed the drum machine. Partner (Brian McCurley) playing guitar and backing vocals. We brought in a really good bluegrass guy for the lead guitar. Recorded in our studio in Boaz, one of the last serious recordings we completed. Brian came up with the name "Becky", specifically as a "country-sounding name". We also recorded a version of "Becky" with Aspen Gold.
"Laid Back In A Memory", an original. We started with Brian's rhythm riff and built all the music from there. A friend of his put the lyrics together based on hearing the music itself. One of the earliest recordings Brian and I did together, but before we'd built the studio. I'm on bass, and playing a second "Jim Croce" style rhythm alongside Brian's rhythm. Drum machine was programmed by Mychael John Thomas, who actually did the recording.
The Doobie Brothers' "China Grove", covered by Tabasco Cat. Brian and I put this band together with some friends specifically targeting Albertville's Freedom Festival in '94, where we headlined the concert preceding the fireworks show (got VHS footage to prove it :). Another early studio recording of ours. I'm on bass only.
Merle Haggard's "Workin' Man Blues", covered by Aspen Gold. This was a band of older folks than Brian and I, playing older country music. We really enjoyed our time in this band, and I developed a liking for older country exactly because of my time in this band. Here again, I'm on bass only. The recording quality isn't quite "studio" due to at least drums being recorded outside the studio.
